Franz Josef is more developed and has a broader range of accommodation, restaurants, and shops. Fox Glacier is quieter, with a feeling like you're off the beaten track. Fox Glacier is also home to the famous Lake Matheson.
Both icy giants are iconic, but here's a quick comparison between the two:

- Because Franz Josef is closer to the coast, it's more affected by conditions causing advances and retreats.
